2010 X5M S63 Logging
1 Attachment(s)
Finally managed to get around to doing a third gear log on MAP1.
Had been running MAP3 previously on a ~E30 mix (107+98 RON). Stock apart from JB4+BCM and drop-in K&N filters. Are the HPFP and LPFP readings supposed to be the other way around? Was expecting boost to be a little higher with 4psi over stock, or is this not really representative of actual? Cheers |
FP_L is not a real value.
You'll need to set your user adjustments back to the default settings. http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31292 |
Hi Steve - not sure I understand
I haven't adjusted any user values in the interface - only changed between MAP3 and MAP1 on steering wheel. This is the current settings when connected to the JB4. http://i.imgur.com/8HJKhp2.jpg Should they be what's used in the screenshot in the above post? |
MAP1 is the same with the exception of FF/Wastegate Adaption changes to 100.
I'd like to up the boost (especially in lower RPM) and run more E85 if possible. |
Yes, that is the example you'll need to set your user adjustment values to. Those settings affect all maps...not just map 6.

I've changed User Adjustable Settings to reflect those above but Boost Safety comes back with an error saying value can only be 1-25, so I left it at 25.
Ran another third gear WOT log but ran out of road at 6000rpm. TRIMS are up slightly but doesn't seem to be increasing boost anywhere across the RPM range, and AFR is relatively unchanged. Would you suggest trying a custom MAP6, or is there something else preventing higher boost? |
N20 TMAP needs to be set to 1, it's currently set to 0.

Competed in our local annual "airstrip" attack event over the weekend.
Managed 230.14km/h 22.619s for standing start 1000m run. Logs attached. Would love to run more fuel (higher ethanol mix) and timing. |
|
I wouldn't recommend any additional ethanol. Your trims are already maxed out but not ba enough to force you lean...yet. ;)

AFR doesn't seem to be affected? |

Also note open loop is set to 0... Raise that to 60 to dramatically lower fuel trims! |

Any other adjustment needed? http://i.imgur.com/mw40qKi.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/C9YLoXp.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/gVDISxj.png Is there a way to reduce the "aggressiveness" of the boost control to smooth it out? Seems to be hunting for boost levels and looks pretty lumpy. |
Bump to see how this is going?
|
Second bump...I see a PID of 8 on one screenshot, 20 on another and different duty bias' on each screen as well Mines been set to 0 this whole time. What happens if I change these and/or what is recommended?
Truck feels like a beast for being...a truck...but I'm always game for faster. So far my best kills are a heavily tuned MazdaSpeed 3, FBO 335's, newest Mustang GT, buddies E60 M5 and another buddies E55 supercharged, then today a Shelby who failed to pull away from me in the fast lane until he gave up around 130 and finally pulled to the right :-) I'm sure there's others but you get the point. |
PID was set to 8 when shipped, and as per comment above, Steve recommended setting to 20, in line with N54 default settings.
Haven't really played with settings lately, as waiting to get the WMI in and sorted before fine tuning. |

WMI install is taking a little bit longer to pull together, as I'm working to comply with local racing regulations, as well as making sure it's somewhat future proof. Got a bit sidetracked by chopping off the exhaust - it's amazing how much upper RPM response is gained after removing this bottleneck. Putting together something simple to replace it. https://i.imgur.com/4eDCWf5.jpg |
I enjoy my HCP flash, but even after three revisions, flash alone doesn't touch the difference in power when running the JB4 as well.

I'd recommend starting with the defaults and adjusting as needed. PID
gain is a bit high. |

Those are Protecon's settings...I've never adjusted duty bias, PID gain, etc. The ONLY things I've ever adjusted myself are Map 6 Boost (anything above 21 and I get overboost errors that take a while before they clear) and my FOL to 80 (per your advice, Steve). Anything beyond that I have truly no idea what I'm doing. I don't know at what point or even what it means to adjust duty bias, PID gains, etc. I considered flashing back to a stock tune just to try Protecon's settings to see how it'd feel, but then I'd get a CEL for no kitties.
Is there a "JB4 Settings for Dummies" page somewhere so I can educate myself? S63 support stopped shortly after I got the JB4 going, I've posted a few logs, only have really adjusted the FOL and then nothing has changed since, yet I feel like I've got this great tool that's not being utilized. |
