disable x drive with jb4 -
10-05-2012, 06:59 PM
hello, i dont know if this has been covered before or not but i think if the jb4 had a feature to disable the xdrive it would be amazing. to have rear wheel drive performance with the ability to have all wheel drive when needed would be amazing. i know there is a fuse you can pull but that messes up the dashboard lights and makes the windshield wiper go crazy. anyway, terry i think this would be a veryyyyy smart business move if you are able to do something like this. i think a lot more people would buy the tune because even if your not trying to have a lot of boost and everything from a tune it is still nice to be able to have a rwd that switched to awd when needed.

It is something he wants to do, but he would need a local X-drive car for some time to do testing and development on. Sounded like it is possible to do through software though.

Taking the idea further, how about a launch control option where AWD is engaged in 1st and 2nd gear, but disabled from 3rd and upwards? This would maximize traction and get you out of the gate, then switch to RWD when the fronts are no longer efficient.
I suspect the GT-R works roughly like that, must be part of its magic and those ridiculous launch numbers it produces.
I am RWD so it wouldn't affect me, just theorizing here.....

Once control is in place I'd like to see it lock the center anytime the 2-step is used from a dead stop and hold the lock for X seconds after that.

What's funny is that my 335xi came from San Mateo (bought as a lemon for HPFP, thank you CA for your lax lemon laws!).. granted, not very close, but closer than MN.

If any x-driver's out there wanted to help with the cost of shipping, i'd ship my car to him. I simply don't have the time to drive out there, chill, and drive back

X-drive goes full rwd after 180km/h, the clutches in the transfer case go fully open causing full power to the rear wheels, if Terry could trick the transfer case controller to think its going 180 we got our solution we just need a car

You can, but with the fuse removed, JB4 doesn't work anymore, so boost is stock-like.

pulling the fuse really isnt a good option. firstly you can't turn the windshield wipers off they just stay on. secondly the dashboard lights up like a christmas tree. your speedo doesn't work. so pulling the fuse really isnt the best option.

You have to pull both fuses 26 and 50. The fuse 50 is the wipers one, so wipers don't go crazy.
For the rest, speedo, dash lights, you're right, not verry cool to look at.
And I don't know about cobb, but I think it should work since its a flash.

I do not have a awd Dyno near bye so if I pulled the fuse would 100% of the power be transferred to the rear wheels?
